Pase III & TE50

found this posted in another newsgroup, makes for some interesting comparsion, not sure how this will turn out but here goes:

30 years between technology

Phase 3 Tickford 50

Gearing Options

The Phase III was available with a chose of Gearbox & Diff ratios.

-Wide ratio Gearbox & 3.25:1 Diff

-Close ratio Gearbox with either 3.5:1, or 3.9:1 Diff

*Also, a "Detroit Locker" was standard.

Phase IIIs fitted with close ratio box & 3.9:1 Diff were much quicker over quarter mile.

Imagine now, if the Phase III was available with 5 speed close ratio gearbox (5th gear overdrive) and 3.9:1 Diff..............

The crappy tires of the time make a huge difference too a HO on decent rubber would flog its modern equivelent

crappy tires YEAH U CAN SAY THAT AGAIN.... 185/75 14 Aquaslides (on the 5 slotter and 12 slotter rims.
Whack on some 17's on it and u watch it break 13 seconds : )

30 or so years of suspension technology applied to the PhIII .. even with its ..gasp..leaf springs would make a world of difference too!

185/75 14 Aquaslides

The size was ER70 H14 which is an equivalent of a modern size 205/70 HR14. The Phase IV XA GT-HO would have used ER60 H15 on 15" x7" Globe Bathurst Wheels which is equivalent to a modern 225/60 HR 15.

I was surprised to see (if these figures are accurate) that the T-Series is so beefy and that the torque of the Phase III, while only slightly higher than it's modern equivalent, comes in at much lower revs.
Bring on the AV GTHO I say.

Power & Torque

The Power & Torque figures quoted for the Phase III are a bit of a miss match. The XY G.T. was quoted as having 300 hp (225 kw) & 380 ft/lb (515 Nm) of torque from factory.

Kinobi, you quote the Phase III as having between 279 - 291 kw, yet still with 515 Nm of torque the sam as a standard G.T.? With the huge increase in power, wouldn't there also be a large increase in torque??

i have no idea if the figures are accurate or not. i found it in another newsgroup and apparantly the figures came from "motor" mag and "wheels"
