Yesterday i put in a new cd burner turn on the computer hard drive spools up but nothing is shown on the screen so i pull everything out off it and place it all into a old system and presto it works now i thought i had done the cpu or the motherboard so today i go and buy new ones along with some new ram to suit it put it all together and the same thing happened so any ideas on what to try or do ive double checked all the jumpers on the new mother board but they are all correct
ive tried just booting with hd, ram and video card but nothing

hmm, so its not posting...
shouldn't be the power supply, otherwise it wouldn't be starting the hdd's etc otherwise.
check and make sure ram/vid is properly seated.
try boot it with bare minimum and see if gives any beep codes.

post whether screen comes up, and if you can see them, post what harddrives/cdroms/burners the PC detects..
-boot the pc up as normal pre burner
-boot pc up with no Harddrives/cdroms/burner. everything else plugged in..
-boot the pc with everything plugged in, except for Hard drive/CDroms.. leave the burner in.
-boot up with Hard drive on one IDE(ide1, or primary) cable, and burner on other cable.

what EFfalcon meant by not 'posting' is the acronym 'POST' power on self test.. the screen coming up is one of the first tests it performs.. if the video test fails it will beep four times. one long, three short.
if the screen doesnt come up and it doesnt beep, then it's not getting to the point where it begins to 'POST'.. it seems that's where you pc is at with the burner.

I knew what effalcon ment by post
heres what ive tried
cpu (amd 2600) ram(512mb ddr ram) and video card no picture the monitor is not getting a signal
and no matter what else i put in it stays the same
using a different motherboard which only takes sdram running a amd xp1600+ with 512ram shows no results
but with the same power supply same ram different cpu (duron 800) different motherboard same video card with all drives attached works
