How do i put a picture in the left column under my username in my posts.

Its called an avatar.

Go to "My FF" link at top of page.
Then to "Edit Option"

Avatars are near the bottom of that page.
I think you need at least 10 posts.

That's him.. You can upload them from your PC but they can be no more than 75 x 75 pixels in size..

Check your "User Options" mate, You may have disabled avatars with out realising..

How come some peoples avatars (such as RAPTOR) have pics as big as 97x97 in size ?

There was a time when tere was an error in the system and some oversize avatar slipped through, this will be rectified if they ever go to change their avatar..
If you are a donating member you can also use a biger avatar than normal.
