Australian Prime Minister John Howard has extended his congratulations to Ford Motor Company Chairman and CEO William Clay Ford on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary

The note from Mr Howard reads:

Dear Mr Ford On behalf of the Australian people, I am pleased to offer my congratulations to the Ford Motor Company on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. Your company has had a profound impact on the development of mass manufacturing and affordable personal transportation throughout the world.

The Ford Motor Company has also played a very significant role in Australia's development since the establishment of its first operations in a leased woolstore in Geelong, Victoria in 1925. The Australian people are greatly appreciative of your company's contribution to our national life over many years, and look forward to Ford Australia's continuing leadership role in our automotive manufacturing industry.

I wish the company well in all its centennial celebrations.

On the news a week or two back, the governer general got into a white BA fairmont and left the house where he recorded his video message.

It had some really shiny aftermarket looking rims and was pretty low! Looked really nice.

That car (the white BA) is part of the close protection squad. It is the only Falcon in a fleet of 6 white VX SS commodores and one silver VXSS (minus rear spoiler). I work opposite AFP HQ in Canberra and get to see these cars all the time.

The GG would normally travel in a Stato or Fairlane or one of the many Rolls they have, but I guess they were taking no chances given what was happening to the GG at that time.
