i dont know if this is happening everywhere else but here in mildura the cops are planning on fining ppl if they dont lock there cars when they go into shops IMO i think it a load of crap and another way of revenue raising if someone leaves there car unlocked and stuff gets pinched bad luck i say

i live in horsham... 3 hrs south of mildura and horsham cops have been doin it for a few years now!!! should be the owners choice and responsibility to lock theyre car! but not get fined for it!!!

OMG FFS it's a persons own choice to lock there car if they dont want to and it gets stolen and found insurance wont cover any damage anyway coz car was unlocked so wtf is the go with that.

Yeah I've heard about this a while ago, apparently its been around here too. You are only allowed to be x amount of metres away from your car if its unlocked, otherwise it has to be locked up otherwise u can get a fine. I can see how they want people to lock their car to prevent theft, but giving out fines is just stupid.

So is this a federal or state law? I seem to remember some law about leaving your car unattended with the keys and around children or so. The legislation and justifications must be available.

Insurance costs for everyone.

Every idiot that makes a claim cause they are too dumb to secure the car makes the rest of our insurance prices go up and its part of the Govts idea to try to stop that (half azzed as it might be)
