The Maguires thread got me thinking. What polish and wax does everyone use?

I have never needed to polish my car before, but now, I do. I want too know what is the best wax and polish to use.

What does everyone use, and what does the product do exactly?

I just got some Turtle Wax polish with the Colour Stick, as I want to polish some small marks/scratchs out of my car. (Second hand cars. Grrr!!)

Anyway, what should I use next? What methods do you use to apply it? What are the results like?

And, is Maguires the best?

IF the car is new, I wouldn't (and don't) use any polish for years.

Use a good wash (Nufinish have a good one I think).

A wax maybe - but no need to affect the paint with a polish until it needs it....years later

Nufinish = BAD uses only silycon and creates a huge gunk build up over a couple of uses makes your paint look worse :S bad reports and ive used it before.

use a very high quality pure canubia wax on new and like new finishes eg car less than 5 years old and been garaged and looked after dont use a polish.

if a polish is needed eg u took to long to get bird droppings off ur paint or want to polish out a mark/light scratch meguires wetlook polish is the way to go, beautiful stuff easy to use.

remember before you polish/wax its best to clean the old stuff off your paint as not to cause a build up best way dont use paint cleaner a mild dishwashing dertergant mix and i mean MILD it contains salt so be sure to rinse througherly after wards but it strips off all built up layers of wax on the car.

dont use the liquard canubia wax either they contain patrolumium products to wet them down use the PURE wax wich comes in a round tin, dont worry its just as easy to apply and use.

if you have a black car the instant detailer works a treat to if u want a spot on finish for a night out

Not true if its a water-based emulsion wax solution.

Here's an interesting wax/polish test. Meguiar's scores very poorly againt the 3 competitors. Personally I prefer the Mother's products to Meguiars.

The best polish ive ever used. Rediculously good results and nearly no effort (do the whole car, then take it all off).

And I polish new cars. As long as its good quality polish it will protect the paint from day #1 and keep it shiny (like i say as long as its good quality)

I use Kitten Liquid Wax.
Apply to one panel at a time, then with another cloth polish it out, then keep going.

i have very old bird poos marks on my green ef. Any help on getting them out ?
