Well, some of us have dial up connections and even worse sometimes use a laptop which has very ordinary graphics memory. But we want to see photos etc in the threads.
With digital cameras etc increasing in resolution, many photos become rather large in size and kilobytes. Some people are posting these photos in full size which is totally unnecessary and adds to the cost of server usage and download costs for FF members.
When I post pics I reduce them using photo editor so that FF members can see what I am posting, but they load nice and fast.
So, can we PLEASE start doing the same thing for photos etc? Some threads are great to see, but they have HUGE attachments.
Thanks guys!
Pete.

I agree with Pete. Can we please re-size the images to a "dial up friendy" size guys..

Ahhh, just as a guide, what is a dial-up friendly size?
Are we talking pixels XxY or kilobytes or what?
Ta
Size:
Keep it to less than standard column width on the forum page.
Kilobytes:
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but a good photo can be less than 30kb in file size using jpg format.

The problem with saying a standard column width on the forums page is that people will have diferent screen resolutions so that their column width will be different to the next persons.
The image below is 700 wide on my screen and does not cause any hassles, but it could on other peoples.
To try and work out a rough guideline, if people are unhappy with the size of the image below put up a post and say if it is too big for your screen or whatever...
DK and XR8Chic:
DK's is okay but it's just one colour. Chic's is definitely too big. As DK said, some people run lower screen resolution such as 680 x 400 or whatever.
I find the size of this attachment is very easy for all screen reolutions and dial ups. It is around 32kb and within a pixel size of 500x400.
Perhaps we need a forum standard for sizes similar to that imposed on avatars?

I will investigate with John the possibility of getting the dimensions of images changed on the fly as it is uploaded, not sure if it is possible at the moment, will find out.
Pete, you can turn off all avatars and signitures under your FF options page. If you are using IE, under Tools - Internet options, you can turn off all pictures. This is from help...

Sometimes pages that contain several graphical images are displayed very slowly. If you want to display pages more quickly, make sure this check box is cleared.

i'm cool with anything up to 100-120kb when i'm at home, and i'm only using a 56k modem, and any size is fine too cuz i run 1280x1024 resolution. therefore, i don't have an issue with the pics at the moment. also, i run lower res (1024x768) at work and that's fine too! all computers should be able to run at 800x600 at least nowadays...
