Just got a ticket today for parking in a Taxi zone.

Couple of things.

There is no chance in hell I parked in a taxi zone at the location they claimed, I believe the dickhead who gave me the infringement at 11:57pm on a Friday night was a bit weary eyed.

Secondly I just received the infringement notice today. They reckon they sent one prior and because it is now overdue, they want extra costs to be paid. I received no infringement letter prior to today nor was there any notice on my windscreen on that night.

So... naturally I am going to fight this infringement.....
Has anyone else gone through this process? What are the chances?

paint your car yellow and get some stickers, claim they made a mistake.

lol nah i dont want to do anything dodgy cos i genuinely know I:

1) definately didnt get any initial notice
2) 95% sure I didn't park where they claim i parked.

I just need to know what is involved if I take em to court... are there court fees associated?

go take a photo of where they claim you parked. outline where you were, and take this to court!!!

The best thing to do is to write a letter or go to the council chambers and have a word with them face-to-face. I'd recommend the latter because of the escalated stage of the fine.

I contested a fine of mine and got off because it obviously wasn't my problem. The issue was that I was parked 'within 10 metres of an intersection' which was true BUT I was within the limits of the sign which was on the other side of the intersection (small laneway). The sign itself is within 10 metres of the same intersection! Go figure?

Mate my advice about court is, you don't want to go there, as defendant, witness or complainant!!!

Lawyers... once they're hired... you've already lost. Worry and stress... at what price??

Write a letter stating your position, if you genuinely believe you're in the right and have evidence to back it up and not a story, throw a racquet at it. Otherwise... pay the fine and walk away.

However, having said that, a great way to spend a raining arvo, get some sandwiches and sit in the back of the gallery... at least do that before you ever think about going to defend a parking ticket. It's not pretty.

Complain to the counsil and tell them if they don't drop it you'll take it to court.
If the lady on the phone refuses ask for her supervisor and advise them that you will produce a stat dec stating you were not parked there and the Onus is on them to prove you did.
Then elect to be prosocuted.
The counsil will drop it and if they don't rock up to the mention and plead not guilty you'll then have to go to a pre trial.
Should the cousil take it this far it should get dropped.
Problem with this is it will take you 2 days off work.
Not really worth it.
Go as far as you can with on the phone with the counsil and if you get no where eventually (after your sure they won't budge) offer to pay the inital amount but not the reminder.

I've never paid a reminder fee because I'm an asshole and I've only paid one parking fine.

The sensible people of the Melbourne council has taken my comments on board and have withdrawn the fine.

To anyone who wants to have 'evidence' in defence of speeding (sometimes) and parking (most times) fines.
Spend about $500 on a GPS datalogger and leave it installed in your car permanently.

These units will store a considerable amount of positional data, so when the mystery fine turns up in the mail you can;
download the data
see if you were really in that location at that time
write a Statutory Declaration to that effect and submit the data along with your request to withdraw the fine because it was obviously not for you

But if you were really speeding or parked in the wrong spot...........

Interesting idea supermono, I wonder how it would go in court
