A few pointers:
EL XR6 with 100k on the clock will fetch for $14k dealer price. XR8's are a few grand more. The gun model to have in EL's is ofcourse the EL2 XR8, the one with 185kw. Keep in mind for the age 100k is very good km's, you'll find typically they will have around 130-140k. Checkout Sinclair Ford for rough prices, though personally i find that the 2nd cars there are abit high on the km's and are in average condition, not show class or anything.
In regards to insurance, just drop into an NRMA branch (Springwood are pretty helpful) and ask them for a printed quote for yourself to insure an EL XR.
BTW: I've seen you drive around the mountains in your XD, if you see a Red AUII XR6 give us a wave.
