im buying a new chip for my pc for xmas, just dont know what to get, Its a celeron 2.0ghz 400mhz 128kb, and ive got 2 choices

a pentium 4 2.4ghz 533mhz and 512kb cache.

or a celeron D 2.8ghz 533mhz and 256kb cache. what is cache? whats it do?

which would be better got games? i got no idea what to get, id love a new p4 3.0, but that means a new motherboard. thanks people

go the P4 for sure, ive got a P4 2.67ghz B model and can overclock it to 2.96 at a stable pace.
Depending on your ram and what not. Also is the CPU a B or C model the C model can overclock better especially the 2.4ghz. My mate has a 2.4ghz C model and with the right ram and cooling could overclock his machine up to 3.2ghz.

But go with the P4, Celeron are slow and chuggish and just cant handle as much as the P4. Hope this helps

I agree, P4 is what I would get out of those 2. Someone is going to tell you to get a AMD soon enough though.

Only getting a new CPU will mean no AMD, however you could go 64bit with AMD for the same price as getting a P4 and new mobo

yeah i notice my celeron 2.0 is pretty slow considering.

how do u overclock :) sounds fun

the rest of my system is 512mb ram, 128mb video radeon 9200. hope this p4 2.4 make underground 2 go better!

ordered a full system for just over $1500 last week for one of the programmers at work.
AMD 64 3400
1Gb DDR
160Gb HDD
all the bits and a 19" CRT screen (philips flat)

only letdown is the ATi 9550 128Mb vid card and no speakers but he had a budget

Hi qwikcorty!!!Ive built around 7 computers in the past for fun.The pentium 4 is going to be heaps quicker because it has 512 cache or internal chip memory.On the computer this memory is the fastest ..the more the merrier and heaps faster too...
