Hey all,

just wondering if anyone knew if the following is possible.

I have a friend who has lost her licence for speeding. she cant drive for 6 months and is waiting for the final letter of enforcement. Now she thought, "what if I get a motorcycle licence?!"

She wants to get her L's for motorcycles now and I was just curious to know if it was possible to get this licence once she has lost her car licence?!

I remember if you lost your L's/P's on your motorbike and still had a car licence you could drive but not ride. does this work in reverse?!

My friend got caught speeding with his bike and you loose both licences.

Loss of licence is loss of licence. It does not matter what type of vehicle. Think of it as loss of being able to control any form of vehicle on a public road.

Here in Queensland, if you lose all your points, you have the option of either losing your license for 6 months OR having 1 point left on your license for 12 months.

So maybe she should go see if NSW has similar rules.

Thanks for the resposes guys... thought as much... will check with the RTA about the 1 point thingy/probation.

yeah... what I meant was if you are on your bike L's/P's you have 4 points. If you have a car licence you have 12 points... so if you loose 4 points on your bike you loose your bike licence but still have 8 points for a car.

you lose all licences, when i lost mine, i got a letter saying that all licence are suspended, truck, motorbike all... ( i dont have any) my dad has been on P plates for a year, coz of truck driving... instead of losing his licence, i dont think it applys to already p platers

The probation period is the same in NSW, you can choose to have 1 point for 12 months, and if you loose that point, you get the 12 months loss starting when you lost that 1 point. It is a risk. I took the 3 month loss instead (now it is 6 months).

If she wants to keep a licence, simply tell her to change her licence to that of another state (assuming she has an address she can use) My mate did this a few years back and had no dramas, even though he got more speeding fines on his new licence.

if i was to lose my car licence, there also goes my boat licence as well... thats in qld, dont know if its the same for other states
