Well I guess since you have a fairmont then you already have a digital dash. Anyway i the engine bay there should be a pink wire that runs from the coil to near the check engine sensors. Just hook into that. Unless this is covered and in behind the dash itself seeing as it will already be installed, then just pull the cluster and get it from there.
Or get an s-pak dash which IMO look better anyways..

Not all EA's come out with tachos - GL pack for example. Its nice to know what revs you are doing. Maybe the OEM tacho isn't accurate enough. And the most compelling reason - OEM tacho doesn't have retina burning shift light and 10,000rpm markings...

Probably Jack but the signal has to be converted into the needle sweeping and thats a source of error. I've heard of people having both the factory and aftermarket tachos installed and they read slightly different. Just going on past observations. Also wiring, etc can all affect the signal quality.
Nothing better than having 5000rpm of unusable tacho!!! I keep telling my mate in his Corolla to "use that top part of the dial"...

Mine's started to do that as well - I think it happens to pretty much everyone with the digital dash. If only I could be stuffed doing something about it...
