Re: R32 Golf

The VR6 engine is a brilliant design I reckon. It is a narrow angle 15 degree V6. That design allows it to need only one cylinder head covering both "banks" (if you could call them that). IIRC two cams - one actuates intake on both banks and the other cam does the exhaust valves.
Because it is only 15 degrees, it is nearly as smooth as a straight six, so doesn't need any balance shafts. The splaying of the cylinders allows the block to only be 4.5 cylinders long.

check out (I didn't need to download the Korean display to read the page):

Re: R32 Golf

The VR6 is one of my fav. vehicles that would suit all my expectations now (what the Focus should offer) aside from the price. A sweet little V6, lots of punch, AWD and sexy design. Ohh damn the interiors of the higher spec Golfs are beautiful too.

Re: R32 Golf

Awsome waste of money IMO. Who in their right mind would pay $63,000 for a four wheel drive V6 Golf? I'd much rather a FPV GT for that money, or a well modified XR6 Turbo. If they cut the price to Focus ST170 levels, it would be the best car in its class. Until then, too expensive to be worth it.

Me too, they are an awesome little car, what they loose out on the straight to a GT will make it up and pull away in the corners.

Re: R32 Golf

GT is a better car to live with day to day. Not only that, it'll rape a Golf in bang per bucks. $63k is extreme for such a car, $33k is a more appropriate price.
