There is no doubt the world is heading towards this type of transport, but in certain countries the reasons are different.
The ML55 and X5is exsist because market research found BMW and Merc owners had more than one car and as such a greater life style choice and wanted a piece of the action.
In Australia there is a blurred line between Crossover, SUV and 4x4. There are a few countries around the world that define what each are.
It didn't stop the X5 taking out 4x4 of the year but the 4x4 mag still stressed the soft offroader limitaions. Personally I would love to see them go after the X5 market ,but I am not sure the Australian sector is enough, especially while imports have the tax advantage they currently enjoy
While I am not sure, it is my opinion that the R7 is going to have to have real off road potential to attract firstly Patrol owners and then a performance variation that might appeal to X5 owners or someone wanting a performance wagon and are prepared to compromise.
Would love to know how the Explorer is going since the new model was launched.
Must appeal to a younger audience than me - I think it's a mix of weird angles and shapes that's not aesthetically pleasing.
Undoubtedly these crossover vehicles have a place but it's not in my garage!
Cheers
It definately looks the goods. I would only buy one if I was looking for a SUV/4WD. It would be nice to have an AV XR8 and an R7 in the garage at the same time.
If I had the family that required such a vehicle I'd buy one in a second.
As it stands at the moment, I'd have an R5 for work, an XR8 for play & a Focus for the missus.
