ok guys i want to buy the miss's a digital camera for xmas

i need it to have the following

2 mega pix +
video +audio
compact flash mem card prefurably doesn't have to be
has to be around $300
zoom
LCD display
flash
and all the other usual bits n pieces
i had in mind this ones
olympus c-150 $259
or maybe a kodax one

I bought my son a Olympus C-150 for Xmas but i have not tried it yet.I got it from Big W about 6 weeks ago for $198 on special so shop around for price. I bought my wife a Canon A40 Powershot for Xmas last year and what a fantastic camera that is for taking snapshots. It cost $680 and the only down-side is that it only takes 10 sec video's. I don't think the C-150 has sound with the video capture so just check before you buy. My sister has a Kodak (not sure what model ) with lithium batteries. The camera chews them really quickly so check what sort of batteries are used in any camera you buy.

I just bought a Canon IXUS 400 for $750 on the net. It is a wicked little camera but out of your price range i guess. Not sure about the lower end of the market, just have a look around on the net

My camera RRP in shops was $900 but buying over the net saved me $150!

Never been disappointed with a Canon. Even a second hand one would do.

Anyways been researching in that price bracket of late and the C-150 Olympus does look like a good buy (I use a higher model Olympus and rather like them). The Kodaks are often winners against their peers on price and plain old user friendliness (consider the CX6230 which has 3x optical zoom under 300, C150 has no optical zoom). Olympus use the XD card format for their memory too, Kodak the much more common SD cards. A friend purchased a HP camera/printer package lately for only a bit more, might be another option.

Im not sure about the movie options on the above cams, I havent had the need/want/desire for it. Remember digital zoom is meaningless crap. If you want any zoom think optical.

Always been happy with our Pentax cameras including the digital we now have but I'm not sure they fall into what your looking for.

dunno about kodak but k mart has a model going on sale on saturday i,m sure it has most if not all of the above mentioned that your looking for, for $169

Try http://www.dpreview.com for advice. They have a helluva a lot of reviews submitted by experienced testers and joe blow public. Find the cameras in your price range and read the reviews. If 5 people say the same thing is crap on the camera, then it probably is!

I have a g3, now superceeded by the g5, and they are quite a bit out of your price range. Its one phenominal camera though.
