Register car as '75 to get past smogging?

Hey guys, new guy here. I live in SoCal and I own a Mercury Capri MkIII, it is registered as a '76 and I am getting tired of getting is smogged every other year. I looked at the vehicle information panel on the inside of the driver door and I saw that it said the year of the car is '75. I was wondering if it would be possible to reregister the car as a '75 that way I will not have to get it smogged everyone year. Thanks for any info guys!

It might be possible. Anything over 20 years here in Ontario Canada doesn't have to get emissions tested. Anything over 30years old is eligible for heritage plates as a classic!

Re: Register car as '75 to get past smogging?

I would look into it at your office of motor vehicles. I know in Ontario, where I come from there is a couple of ways to get a new registration, including a rebuilt registration.

However, this does mean that if you do get something with a rebuilt title when you go to sell the vehicle the history report will likely tell the buyer that it is a rebuilt car.

But hey the car is over 30 years old, if someone had a similar car but the registration was somehow lost, there should be a way to re-register it

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to see if there is anything similar to a "rebuild" title for use in California. I do not care if it has as rebuilt title because I do not plan on ever selling this car. I have to much history with it and love it way to much to ever part with it.
