This game just looks unbelievable in terms of graphics.
It's scheduled for release mid-2002 which is perfect because I'm sure I'll be a little over WRC 2001 by then :s6::s6::s6:

Hehehe...yeah I had to look twice. But if you notice from the 2nd picture, the rear tyre isn't perfectly round.

Rally for real with Colin McRae Rally 3 and the most detailed car ever created for a video game

Colin McRae Rally 3

The Ford Focus RS World Rally Car for Codemasters' Colin McRae Rally 3 is set to be the most detailed and authentic driving machine ever recreated for a video game.

Tipped as one of the most wanted games of 2002, Colin McRae Rally 3's development team is eyeing a level of visual detail that surpasses any other racer. It will provide a breathtaking sense of being on - and off - the road in a fully weighted and authentically functioning Focus WRC.

Rallying is a thoroughly immersive and tense motorsport and this level of car detail is designed to bring players even closer to the whole experience, as Rick Nath, Associate Producer for the title, explains:

"Graphically, the in-game Ford Focus RS WRC will be over 16 times more detailed than the model in Colin McRae Rally 2.0. The polygon count for the Focus model is up to a staggering 13,000, as compared to about 800 for the previous game.

"Working at this level means we'll be effectively giving players a real Focus to rally, making the gameplay intensely richer. We can fully detail the car's interior, its engine bays, and the chassis detail. We're also working on suspension, and a more realistic damage engine with opening and detachable panels, doors, tailgates, bonnets, bumpers, and windows.

The recreation of the Focus in game is not just limited to the vehicle's body parts - both McRae and co-driver Nicky Grist are fully animated and react to every movement of the car. They will sway under cornering, pitch forward under breaking and Nicky will even grab hold of the roll cage to steady himself in a collision. McRae operates the car's controls realistically, using the pedals as well as steering and changing gear or using the handbrake.

As well as looking good, Colin McRae Rally 3 will capture the sense of being part of a professional rally team thanks to the close working relationship Codemasters has formed with Ford Racing. Making use of their vast expertise and passion for the sport, Codemasters has unparalleled access and is working directly with the key members of the team responsible for the Ford Focus RS WRC.

The game's team are being given exclusive access-all-areas privileges during the 2001 World Rally Championship and to the Ford Racing HQ in Cockermouth to gain a complete insight of getting a car through a stage and winning the rally.

Detailed information and data from rally car technicians is being used to redefine the in-game car physics. These improvements will be seen in the game in the overall handling, the changes to the performance for different set-ups and how damage will effect various parts and car control.

Colin McRae Rally 3 is currently in development at Codemasters and is due to appear in Q3 2002 with specific gaming formats to be announced.

One of the leading formats is said to be Xbox. While the title is also heading to PS2, codemasters haven't been too kind in the praise of the unit and the promises made by sony from a code point of view.
