People get done all the time for loud exhausts on their cars, but what I don't understand is how a Harly Davidson motorcycle can be legally sold and allowed on the streets with such a loud exhaust??? They literally shake the ground when the drive by, is their a seperate law for them? I think it's unfair that (not that I like riced up cars) a car with a moderately loud exhaust gets defected while a motorbike which is 10 times louder is acceptable? Combined with the fact that they mainly ride around in groups! I don't understand it.

i have also been wondering the same thing...the only time ive ever heard a car that compares to a Harley is when its running straight out of the headers.

they dont sell them with loud exhausts, just that pritty much every harley is sold with a set of chrome straight through exhaust.

They go on the base fact with bikes or cars, if it came from factory with that exhaust on it...then thats that! But I agree there should be a base decibel output that should be adhered to no matter of factory fitment or not.

When you see a fairly new one they have a sticker on the side of the bike somewhere (exhaust? I don't recall) that says something about it being ADR approved at 93? I think it was Db. Very small sticker, and I've only seen it twice.

Bikes, like cars, also have a maximumdb. But for them it is 96db or even higher. I think cars are about 90db...

They come out with baffles in the pipes. Dad has a 95 Fatboy & all he did was rip em out..

That's what most people do, rip the baffles out. I know a couple of people that have been pulled over on Harley's, and the cops have shoved their beatin' sticks up the pipes, checking if the baffles are still there.

My old bike had a 93 db sticker on it. The first thing I did was put an aftermarket exhaust on. Improved power heaps, but yes, bloody loud.
Falcon is pretty loud though, with headers, no cats, and a 2.5 inch exhaust, (only 1 muffler).

Harley are fitted from the factory with quiet exhaust, the 93db probalby is a ride by test and that includes noises from drive belt etc. But every bastard drops the baffles out or replaces them with different type. They can be done for noise and have been done for noise, if u were a cop and a bikie went past doing nothing more wrong than a noisy exhaust, "would u pull them up!"
