RIP Johnny Warren

yesterday, a great Australian became yet another victim to cancer. Johnny Warren was the captain of the 1974 football team for the world cup and was also most passionate about developing the game in this country. I didnt always agree with him, but nobody could deny his committment to cleaning up soccer australia and taking the game to new levels. sadly, he wont be around to witness the start of the revitalised league competition that he worked so hard for, but he will be long remembered as the driving force behind it.

RIP Johnny.

Yes a sad day indeed rsgerry. The mental toughness that elite sportspeople exhibit was with him to the end. Play well Johhy Warren.

Re: RIP Johnny Warren

Please forgive my ignorance as this particular hero is unknown to me, but anyone that puts so much effort and passion into their sport on and off the field is a definite champion in my books. My condolences to all.

Re: RIP Johnny Warren

Its a sad few days for all soccer fans I think,
Johnny Warren was a man who stood up for what he beleived in, and was an excellent ambassador for the sport.

Hopefully one day his dream that "The socceroos stop worring about qualifying for world cups, and start winning them" is fufilled

Rest In Peace champion!

Re: RIP Johnny Warren

My condolence go out to his family. He was a gentleman, a great sportsman and a great australian. On and off the pitch he was a great ambassador to the game he loved so very much.

I will remember him fonly because out of all the critics he never once slandered Melbourne or Sydney Croatia, he saw past race and saw the passion for football that we displayed. A Legend and his legacy will go on...

RSGERRY Johnny Warren didnt captain the socceroos during the '74 finals, he was infact injured, the captain of the socceroos for the '74 finals was Peter Wilson.

Re: RIP Johnny Warren

It's a shame to see him go he was one of the most passionate people for soccer in Australia. He had battled cancer for several years & for awhile it looked like he had beaten it but sadly it came back & could not be prevented any longer
