Thinking about the roads I have driven down on the way home, gave me a thought for a new thread. What is you favourite piece of road to drive along.

I have three, all in SA

1: The road from Carrieton to Hawker . After 30k of dirt all of a sudden there is about 10K of the best bitumen road in the state. A long sweepers, with a few straights, no need for brakes pity about the speed limiter, and the road on the way in (lost two mudflaps going through creekbeds.

2: The old Eagle on the hill road, used to drive it every day while still a major arterial, now hardly ever used, but still dual carriage way through the good bits, camber on most corners perfect, great in my XR ute.

3: Mt Torrens to Mt Pleasant, now drive this every day to work and there are two routes equally as fun (unless you find the school bus)

Plenty of others around (Great ocean road etc, and a great dirt road out of Alice Springs).

Thoughts it might be interesting to see what other people like.

Before I had my XD I loved Galston Gorge & Wisemans Ferry Roads now all I need is a 1/4 mile of stait flat road

No shortage of them down here in Tassie. I have heard many great things about these roads in SA. I must get over there one day. Ah yes One day>>!

If your from SA i dont think you can beat going down One Tree Hill Road, then Snakegully and off into the hills.....
Chain of Ponds is great if you like twisty roads and from my experience they are never ever policed except on the parts were it opens up really straight and wide (Not Often) or in the little country towns were the speed limit drops. This is were i go to blow some fuel and take a few 1000 kays off the outside edges of the tires. :)

Snowy Mtns Hwy.. Cooma turnoff to Tumut.. (In summer. Black ice is a b*tch)

i liked the roads around mt macedon and hanging rock area. pretty damned nice, especially two tight bends on the way back from the hanging rock. enough camber to do 35-40 in the bend and not ever get tire squeal!

Definately. I love the great ocean road, it would be great to test the handling capabilites of the XR8 on thic strech of road.

Best road in South Australia is without doubt "Cork Screw rd". The name says it all. The corners are so tight that most cars can't make them without crossing into the on coming lane.
Yet to find one in Perth as they all seem to be dead straight...

Perth roads are shite. I have yet to find one that is fun to punt your car on AND have a decent surface.
