People are still being killed on the roads, these accidents look like they are occuring from people falling asleep at the wheel.... Dont people get the message, if you drive too fast, you will fall asleep at the wheel!
Re: Road Toll at 15...we mustnt be going slow enough
Yes well we had a fatality near Bgo yesterday and then 1 today, it's not good, the one today was a freak acident, a VK Commode with big rim's 18's lost a wheel on the hwy and an old couple in a Landcruiser tried to avoid the wheel but slammed into a tree, very unfortunate, the driver of the Cruiser died at the scene.

Long weekend toll hits 15
The Sydney Morning Herald
Tuesday June 15 2004 The threat of double demerit points and warnings by police to slow down were not enough to prevent at least 15 road deaths across the nation during the Queens Birthday long weekend.
I dont see how people speeding is connected to the accidents mentioned in the article. Another example of the indoctrination designed to force motorists to accept the new stealth tax.

Ask the hard questions people. Do you all know that Harold Scruby loser who is running the Pedestrian Council Australia. Ask him how we're gonna stop moronic pedestrians walking down the middle of highways near Wagga. This last long weekend was a pedestrian issue and to suggest motorists should faqce more penalties and cameras etc etc is a farce. What do double demerit points do for this all anyhow?

whats losing a wheel got to do with speeding? its only a commy anyway lol
and whats the long weekend got to do with it all, it still would of happened if it was any other normal weekend. that guy still would of lost his wheel, the people still would have walked out onto the road, and how dumb is that, may i add. and they really cant prove that any of them were speeding.

Tell that to the poor old widow who now has to bury her late husband. it's got a lot to do with long weekend's, why you ask because there are allway's fatility's on these weekend's because there are so many people on the road, speed allway's has something to do with it.

Re: Road Toll at 15...we mustnt be going slow enough
Just today, i was first to arrive on the scene in my XR at a fatality at the Balnarring road/Mooroduc highway intersection. A four wheel drive with a bullbar was travelling at approx. 100km/hr on the highway, when a small mitsubishi stationwagon pulled out of Balnarring road straight in front of it.. The 4x4 had a small dent in the bullbar, whilst the wagon had a completely caved in drivers side, all the way to the passenger side door..
Shocking to see, went back past after about 10mins after picking a friend up, and there were cops everywhere, blocking off the road, with a big blue tarp over the wagon..
Re: Road Toll at 15...we mustnt be going slow enough
I noticed a few days back that John Howard stated 'no matter how much money you throw at a road, people will still die on it'.
How true.
The reason why no government, no road safety body, the RTA or the police can pinpoint the cause of accidents and fatalities is because they continually miss the point. Doubling demerit points is not going to stop someone falling asleep, fining them $x for speeding is probably not going to slow them down, its going to piss them off, then theyll just hide from cops. The consistent issue with road safety is that far too often, accidents and fatalities are lumped together under the assumption they are all caused by either speed, drink driving or fatigue.
The root of ALL of these problems is a lack of training, and regardless of what anyone can say or prove, i truly believe that is the basis for every single accident - drivers just do not have the proper skills to deal with whatever situation may confront them.
People just do not recognise the risks, and they do not fully understand how to deal with a situation.
And as long as that is the case, people will forever be dieing on our roads and leaving the rest of us scratching our heads, wondering why, and then figuring the only way to stop it from happening is to slug us massive fines.
