To settle a difference of opinion between a work collegue and myself who is supposed to give way at a roundabout. I always thought it was give way to the right but she claims it's first in best dressed! Who's right?
The reason this errr... subject has come up is because she almost ran into me at a roundabout recently.
I'm talking ACT if it makes a difference.

Well I know in Victoria you are supposed to give way to the right, but if I get to a roundabout when the is a fair bit of time/distance between me and the right traffic, I dont wait, but if you get hit by the right traffic, it is your fault.

Yes its give way to the right. But you also have to giveway to anyone who has entered the roundabout before you.
I had a very near miss the other day. I pulled up and to the right its hard to see the traffic as there is a fence. So I waited, no cars, pulled out and bloody hell! This car came screaming at me, I swear he didnt even bother to stop and check his right! Bloody Taz drivers though. If you ever come over here then look out, you have been warned.

I think it is give way to those already on the roundabout, which will be on your right anyway if they are going the right way around. Technically I think your colleage is correct, first-on wins.

Hey that is enough of that!!!
Give way to the right but your friend is also right in that you have to giveway to anyone "in " the round about. Generally this would mean you are giving way to the right. The person on the right has the right of way but if by chance they are waiting for the right to be clear and they aren't in the round about then you are right to go... Right????????????? hehehehehe
Slow down as you approach a roundabout. You must give way to traffic already on the roundabout if there is a risk of collision. Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in the traffic.

Thats what i've been following, though when i'm in a hurry and the car on the other side is still relatively far i go through.
