I've been told about and been invited to a 'runway speed day', to be held next month. (NZ XR's - anyone interested in attending if it goes ahead - will be at Ohakea Base west of Palmerston North. Police will attend with Laser and Stealth etc, so you could test your jammer/stealth detector etc at the same time). On that note, one run my co worker did on his Blackbird the cop could not get a reading on the laser and he was ONLY doing 260k.
I know you guys in Aust have done some of these - get on a runway, blat as fast as poss, then remember to brake at other end. The one concerned is run by a Nissan club. Some of the Skyline boys get a bit 'shy' and tend to opt out of the speed runs. Last meet there were some interesting machines - a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, maybe a Gen 3 SS, and some hot bikes too. Sounds like there was a lot of fun had by those who dared.
Question - how does the XR8 rate in such speed trials. Can one expect to be eaten by the ricers. Should I just take the 200SX and pretend its my car and not the wifes?

The XR8 should go ok, as long as it doesnt have a speed limitor.
When mine was stock, my house mate borrowed it, and got it over 200. He said it was at about 3500, and felt like it had a lot more in it - but backed off when he saw a flash (needless to say - he never was allowed to borrow my car again)

Do they really have "runway days" here in Oz? How do you find out about them? Are they just club events? Maybe FF could organise one... That would be awesome to go to. I watch Top Gear and whenever I see Tiff thrash the bejesus out of something on the airstrip I think, "You lucky !@#$%^."
When I was based at Nirimba in Sydney's West, we had our own runway there. Runway racing was a part of life nearly every weekend. We used to just book the runway for testing purposes, it wasn't our fault that it was aways "double booked" so to speak!
