5 Speed XR6 vs 5 Speed SS it would probably come down to the better driver, but if I had to, id put my money on the XR6 (of course im biased tho.. hehe)
Auto vs Auto I would say the SS would win.

i have an old wheels magazine from 93/94 which did a comparison between a ED XR6 and ED XR8 up against a VR S and a VR SS they were all autos and all had air con. basically it all came down to that the ED XR6 was quicker than all of them. they did 1/4 mile times and laps around i cant remember if it was oran park or eastern creek but i know the XR6 was quickest and the guys in the magazine were surprised. so im guessing that the XR6 would be quicker than the VN SS
will find the mag and post some bits about times out of it.

VN SS (1991) - Manual
Power: 165 KW
Torque: 385 Nm
Weight: 1423 kg
EB II S-XR6 (1993) - Manual
Power: 161 KW
Torque: 365 Nm
Weight: 1500 kg
So unless the figures are inaccurate (??), the VN 'should' win in theory, as it has slightly more power/torque and weighs less??
Yeah gotta say the VN's in a V8 do go hard due to their weight advantage. But still i reckon the XR6 will win.

I think it would be terriffic if someone was to compile a table of
cars, particularly Falcon vs Commodore. If someone has Wheels magazines with say, 0-100 km/h and 1/4 mile times for Falcons say from XD-AU and Commodores VB-VX, this would make fascinating comparisons. Obviously it could never be 100% accurate as there are different tracks, drivers, temperature etc.
Still I think everyone would be interested to have a look, maybe there is already a web site with such info ?

This guy has listed the 1/4mile times for just about every car you can imagine, and all of his times are derived from Magazines.
He lists 15.2 for an EB XR6 and 15.9 for a VP SS
