I was saddened by this news. Pete Geoghagen held a special memory for me after watching him drive with Allan Moffat to victory in the first James Hardie 1000 in 1973. This was the first of the modern events where the distance was increased from 500 miles and co-drivers became compulsory.

As a 16 year old on my second visit to the Mountain, that race was the first major Ford victory that I had witnessed.

I was younger than Blurter hehe but watching him throwing that Mustang around Oran Park and was awesome, especially against Moffat and Jane in the Camaro.
Went to the darkside in the sports sedans catergry in the mid 70's from memory ran a HK Monaro 4door with a honking chev and Craven Mild sponsership. That was absolutely wild in those days cheeez there was even a VW fastback with a chev in it driven by Bryan Thomson, Big Pete hammered them all, what a full on guts driver.
RIP Pete, I'm sure you'll have a laugh with Barry.
