saloon car racing

does anyone buy perth street car mag here? inside there is a very interesting article about this new class of racing. Pitting ea-eb 3.9s against vn-vps, anyways they say the cars mild state of tune still puts just over 200hp to the wheels! and all is done is pacemaker extractors and exhaust, and a controlled cam and chip which is priced at $150 for a regrind and $300 for the chip!!!
I want the specs of that cam!

The extractors are called race series apparantly.

200rwhp sounds pretty do-able with those mods.
Extractors + exhaust should get a fair bit more power, then the cam can shift the torque higher up (remember hp = torque * rpm, so more torque higher up = more power)..

Sounds interesting though :) Do they do anything to lighten the cars?

yeah i guess they would, the pic shows a rollcage ans all steel floor!
ive just come home from the wreckers, ozwreck on bennet st dandenong, my initial intentions were to buy a commodore cat as i heard they are a bit bigger.
i was talking to a bloke there about what ive done to my ea and told him bout the rocker gear swap, and asked about the cat i wanted. We wandered through the back measureing cats when after id told him bout the power of these saloon cars, he said that he had build two! ripper!. I asked him what the engines had done to them...

bottom end balanced blueprinted
10:1 comp
standard head, no porting, std valves
pacemaker race series extractors into 2.5inch out the side of car with 1 muffler
reground ea cam
modified chip
and a pod filter and cold air duct

he got 156kw at the wheels out of them

anyway back to the cat
he told me id gain 8kw with a cat with 2.5inch pipe thru it. im guessing with these mods not from standard

so right no on my back table is a vl commodore 2 1/4 cat been gutted previously now waiting for me to enlarge the flanges!

also a web address for u guys...

Read Have the article?

Firstly, let me say hi. I'm an ED owner from Canberra and have been an active participant in another ford forum for about a year now. I was just looking over your forum and noticed this article on saloon racing. I was watching this racing for the first time on TV today and wanted to know where I could get some more info.

I've searched the net and can't really find much on this category. Kwikcorty, do you still have the magazine by any chance? If so, is it possible for you to scan it and send it to me? It would be great if you can. What issue of the magazine was it?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Great forum by the way!

Welcome ED195KW

The http://www.salooncarracing.com.au/Article/article.htm web site appears to be down at the moment but was working the last time this thread was brought up. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch...

hey guys, that saloon car in PSC mag is a close relative's of mine.

if anyone is interested in saloon car racing or has any questions please feel free to ask me.

specs for the cars are:

borg warner 28 spline diff with minispool and 3.45s
t50d 5 speed borg warner gearbox
stinger EMS
brass button clutch
pedders suspension
2 piston PBR calipers on 330mm rotors
they make about 200rwhp = 200ish kw
bridgestone RE540 semi-slicks

the class is quite regulated and reasonably affordable (as much as racing can be).

As far as i remember the head is basically stock, bar cam, tune and exhaust (and K&N pod filter).

Not to sure about compression, i'll be speaking to our team's engine builder to see exactly what happens to make these things make the same power as my 5 litre Sprint :p

I guess the main question with the cam and chip is, does it behave well on the street or is it a true race cam, shit idle?
