AMNINA LAWAL SET TO BE STONED ON 3RD JUNE
The Nigerian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Amina Lawal, condemned for the crime of adultery on August 19th 2002, to be buried up to her neck and stoned to death. Her death was postponed so that she could continue to nurse her baby. Execution is now set for June 3rd.
If you haven't been following this case, you might like to know that Amina's baby is regarded as the 'evidence' of her adultery..

Amina's case is being handled by the Spanish branch of Amnesty International, which is attempting to put together enough signatures to make the Nigerian government rescind the death sentence. A similar campaign saved another Nigerian woman, Safiya, condemned in similar circumstances.

By March 4th the petition had amassed over 2,600,000 signatures.

Maybe, but its a barbaric country, and i'm sure everybody living there knows the rules. If it wasn't her fault, like she was raped or something, then thats different, but if she knowlingly went out and boofed her next door neighbour while her hubby was out earning the hard earned, then maybe she deserves it. If it was a man getting stoned for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving children, would they be trying?

A bit of a puplicity stunt me thinks. They do this sort of thing everyday in third world countries.

If it was rape then i can see saying no. But she was well aware of the punishment if she was to get caught. Too bad it is frowned upon to do this sort of thing for real crimes like murder or molestation. I think there would be less crime if we had punishments more suited to the crime. IE cut off hand for thieves, castrate for child molestation, for murder they should get the same death that they inflicted upon the vicitms.

Yeah I know not politically correct, but it would sure as hell be better than sticking them in a prison, giving them 3 square meals a day, free education, free medical, internet access, TV's and workout equipment. I think prisoners have it too easy now adays.

I did it anyway, it's not everyday I can help to contribute to saving someones life. Yes she knew the rules, but they were some godd@mn fukked up rules don't ya think ? I mean, it's not like she hurt someone or killed someone is it ? Plus the kid she gave birth to might not grow up with a mother. We have it to easy and take everything for granted, we complain about fines and government revenue. Whatabout it the government took our lives in stead or our money, how would that suit you ?

signed anyway. whilst amnesty dont always appeal to me, especially their comments about australia, this one is spot on.

this woman is hardly the worlds greatest criminal. even if guilty, does anyone deserve to die for a quick one on the side? what is happening to the guy? adultery does require two...

anyway, what can you expect from some half-arsed backward country whoe president or whatever is called A'Rsole...or something similar...

What about the guy??? Why should she take all the blame for it? Unless she had him tied up, forced herself on him while he secretly had the time of his life. I don't believe it should cost anyone their life...
