Saw my first naked...
Australian made Ford six cylinder today. It is a pretty sophisticated donk!
Today I visited a mechanic's shop (a customer). He was working on a 1997 Falcon 6 cylinder sedan. The head had been removed (cooked after a heater hose leak) and I could see the coil pack and the dizzy because the MPI was out of the way.
The combustion chamber was eliptical and sophisticated looking on the shiny new head on the nearby bench. I could also see the improved design of what passes for a timing cover gasket on the EA-EB. The rubber looking gasket is locked into a purpose made groove on the top join-to-the-head section. The timing chain, chain damper & guide, and top timing gear were all in view. He talked about trying to set TDC and the way the chain 'moves'. The Crow Cam outfit had a very neat replacement timing adjuster that works wonders he said. And he showed me the cam setup and quoted me a price on a Crow camshaft and hi-flow cat too.
I also noted that this 1997 model Falcon doesn't have a radiator fan, it has twin thermostatic fans on a plastic moulding that looks like it would fit my radiator too. I think maybe I want one.
So, my visit to that mechanic's place convinced me that -purely in the interests of fuel economy and precise clean green combustion chambers- I should shell out $400 for a major Injector service, $670 for a Crow Timing Adjuster, $600 for a Crow Cam, $350 for extractors, $340 for a hi-flow catalytic burner, perhaps $300 for thermostatic fans, and get a 'S' dash...
Anyone got any of these goodies?
