well, after the joy of having scoob as pet of the month, things took a turn for the worse.
he was sick on sunday arvo, didnt touch his biscuits on sunday evening, monday morning or on monday evening. i got a bit worried, especially considering his history (cancer) so they had a quick look and took a blood sample. turns out his red cell count was down (thanks leukemia). but they wanted to keep him overnight. next morning they were checking for lumps and found one in his stomach. they opened him up and found a huge tumour on his spleen. his spleen should normally weigh 200-300g. his weighed 1kg. thecancer treatment he has been having had killed the tumour, but it was going rotten, hence scoob being sick. well, they removed the spleen and he came home tonight, thursday. when he went in on monday he weighed 19.6 kg, and 17.6 tonight. he has had his tummy completely shaved, and has more stitches than i can count.
but once again, he has bounced back better than the vets expected. he is a strong willed little fella, but very loving and gentle. i truly hope we can kick this cancer square in the nuts.
anyway, a HUGE thank you to morley vet centre again. whilst the bill was big, there were a number of items we werent charged for, but more than this, they care.

I just have a weird feeling that because everyone is so keen to see him get well he's gonna be a fighter for a lot longer. Mate, I know what you're going through - many people will say it's just a dog, but we know that he's an integral part of the family unit.
I'll say it again:
General, Pepper and AP wish you well Scoob, and hope the rest of the family sees lower stress levels soon.
RSG:
Every vet I go to has eventually put on extensions and renovated. I always tell them I OWN part of the place! (he he)

As a fellow pet owner, all the best to you both. This just reiterates that if you (speaking generically) are worried about your pet, take them to the vet! If I'd done that with my previous cat earlier, things may have been different.
Hope he's doing better!
Simon....

i have also got to say a huge thanks to everyone on these boards who have wished him well.
it amazes me that people who meet in an environment like this ( a message board), often never meeting in person, can actually start to feel friendly towards each other. and for those people to wish a dog they will never meet a speedy recovery is truly lovely.
thanks to everyone

Just catching up on some old threads, how's Scooby doing?
thanks very much Simon...Scoob is doing better. he is not 100%, and seems to spend most of the time asleep under the bed. maybe the cool floorboards sooth his belly. i dont know the answer to that one, but he is still lively enough at the park, when he hears the electric shaver, hears the bag being punched (insetr wife joke here===> ) so i dont think he is too bad. i think he is conscious of the number of stitches he has in his belly. he has a wound about 8 inches long and about 20-25 stitches (he wont stay still long enough for me to count them). the stitches come out on tuesday when he goes in for his chemotherapy.
do you / have you attended any of the perth cruises or are you in the TOCWA?
regards
gerard
