Selling Personalised # Plates

I've always wondered, looking at the hundreds of number plates for sale in the Trading Post for ludicrous amounts... How do you actually do the sale?
According to the RTA (NSW) i'm pretty sure you can only transfer plates to family members. So what are these people doing after the cash is handed over? Any one done it yet?

Well easy way around it, they hand them in, and you apply at the same time, so cancel from there name and pick up in yours.

So not really a transfer but technically it would be, follow.

Re: Selling Personalised # Plates

Yeah i firgured that's what would probably happen. As i figured the RTA wouldn't agree with the whole selling factor.
Some of the prices are amazing, like one i saw when the net was just getting popular. I think it was WWWCOM and the price asked was $100k!

Yeah, that's the value of new very nice car. I don't think even someone that could afford a GTS could justify that much on a number plate.
If I saw a GTS with those plates, the first thing i'd think would be "No shyte"

Re: Selling Personalised # Plates

I saw someone selling something like BA FALC for a few grand over here in one paper... but for some reason someone was charging about twice the price for one that read SAGGY... why would ANYONE want that?
