I just read fte22's thread on speeding and it reminded me of a car I sold some two years ago. The guy was strapped for cash and I was selling the car (a 84RX7 mazda) as is, he pleaded could he drive it home with the plates on to save getting a vehicle pass, he was quite a genuinely nice guy and just divorced so I said yes, he swore he'd drop the plates back the next day. Well 3 camera speeding tickets, a red light ticket, 2 parking fines and a notice for driveing a unegistered vehicle with $180. fine. All up I was looking at some $700. in fines! Thank god I had written his liscence number, previouse address(which happened to be his ex happy to pass on new details) and had it witnessed and subclaused* any fines incured after the date of sale belong to the purchaser* The Queensland dept of transport were happy so long as they got thier man, It cost him well over $1000 with court costs and they took his liscence. But the local council refused stat decks, the receipt of sale everything! so I had to pay them $100. for 2 overdue parking fines...It would have been so much better If I had have just said "no you cant borrow the plates" in the end he did return them and say he was sorry. Number plates in your name remain in your name regardless of rego untill the transport department destroys them.

damn.. actually THAT reminds me-

when i sold my unregistered but drivable XE falcon, the guys who picked it up only wanted the engine, so to get it home instead of getting a permit they had their own plates that they just tacked on quickly and off they went.. i thought "whatever", shrugged my shoulders and walked back inside with my cash.

Thats the way to do it BYO, bloody remember that next time I will. Reminds me of the pannel beater who took my Cortina three weeks ago to respray it,"OH dont worry Ive got dealer plates" says he driveing away my $5000 cash puchase with half up front for his spraypainting in his pocket and no plates on the car.

Friend of mine just purchased a jeep from geelong and drove it back to QLD

No plates for the 3 days hes was oin melbourne, used the citilink at least 100 times and he drove 2600ks back to qld sitting well over the limit most of the time

Not One cop pulled him up!

i drove round with no plates for a week.....
got busted finally,
hence the name criminal now..... lol

after a certain amount of years there wiped off the system tho cause after i stacked my car and walked home the cops had to go right throu the car untill thay found a form with my adress on it or thay would have had no idea whos it was because the plate was last regesterd in 96 so i was wiped off the system thats in act anyways

I think its a while longer in QLD, a mates X had a car sitting at her parents place for some 5 years, it had belonged to an x of hers who gave it to her when they broke up(68 toyota corolla)she said"boys its yours if you take it away." We were there in half an hour, I drove it while the cruser pulled it, we got to a mates put juice in it wrapped copper wire around the ballast resistor and away she went, we took it out to a cane paddock and flogged it till it rolled and the roof collapsed nearly decapitateing the driver. Two days later the Girl says to us" what the F*ck did you do the police were around my X and he put them on me, they wanted to know about what had happened to the car. We all just smiled, it had been good while it lasted, bloody stout little engine would not blow!
