They sold 40 KA's!
Only 500 Lasers! Arnt they on run-out deals?
The Cougar and Mustang came about last
The Escape went alright but the Explorer was almost last.

I can't wait for the Focus, BA and Festia...

I feel like crying too. Remember the Ford glory days of the late 80's early 90's when Falcon and Laser were on top?

Ford sure is doing it tough right now. I think their main problem is they are very fickle with their imports, and don't choose them carefully enough for the local market. They are either overpriced, underpowered or just plain ugly. eg:

1. Taurus - what WERE they thinking?
2. Probe - nice looking car, never really understood why it didnt take off.
3. Cougar - underpowered. Brings back memories of Probe. Consumers probably afraid that it will be short lived, therefore poor resale.
4. KA - underpowered AND ugly AND overpriced.
5. Explorer - no match for the Japs.

Most of the cars above were not right for their class at the time, and suffered. The Barina/Astra/Vectra are going gang busters. They look good and have decent performance. And the journos seem to love 'em.

The Focus should be a winner, but they desperately need to put a few more horses under the bonnet, otherwise it will go the same way as all the others.

I was surprised to see the Camry languishing in sales. Hell, they seem to be everywhere. The Avalon is no surprise. The worst thing Toyota has done since the Lexcen.

Umm, they sold 1264 Lasers for the month. As for the Focus, it wasn't out for the full month, ie it was released half way thru September. So for half a month, 500 units isnt too shabby. Once brand awareness through more advertising increases, then the sales will jump. But I reckon having a hi-po RS Focus or an FPV one will help the brand image, ala Subaru WRX and RX Impreza.

Hrrm, looking at those sports segment figures, Ford needs a sports car to augment the Mustang - and I'm not talking about no POS front wheel drive car from America.
