shell optimax is a great fuel.the v8 doesn,t ping under hard acceleration and i get a extra 50km per tank full but at9c/lt extra i think there pushing the freindship....i,m thiking of changing to premium unleaded at about 4 c/lt more...has any one done a comparison between the two ...what are the pros and cons

I used optimax in the EA. now the car idles baddly around 500 to 400 not good. and the car misses while idling. just wish i never filled a fulltank everything was ok before that. and power has gone down before u could drive it hard. was useing shell unleaded before cant wait to fill her up on regular. ohwells.

i think it take a couple of tanks for your computer to adjust to the higher octane

i have a theory

maybee ya cat was stuffed and now you are using optimax (a fuel that ive been told is notorious for killing almost knackered cat converters)

take it out on the road and see if ya cant give it a bootfull and blow ya cat clean you should notice a trail of orange debris lol (well i did it in my old ute when i first started using optimax i noticed it had more go and a throatier note too)

Optimax is different than premium? I always thought Optimax was premium?!

I work at a mobil servo, and we have s8000, which is a 98ron fuel.. is this comparable to the Optimax?

I like S8000 :) better then Optimax

Hey . one question i have is.
ECU needs to adapt to the higher fuel rating

How about us on GAs,
when we flick from petrol to gas.. then gas to petrl again..
How is the computer ever going to get used to it?!

i use synegy 8000 too . but there price has gone up too
it was cheaper than optimax
but you can get premium unleaded which has a rating of 96 octane its normally about 4c/lt more than standard unleaded

The computer won't 'adjust' itself on an EA-ED 6. It may on an EF onwards.

i use either caltex vortex or synergy 8000. I never touch the shell premium petrol, i've only heard bad things..

I have used both Mobil fuel and optimax in my falcon and the optimax is always a 98 rating where as mobil premium unleaded can be a 96 or 98 rating depending on what fuel is cheaper... So says the fuel truck driver's of both companies... But optimax puts so much more performance in my Integra Type R too...
