Should Craig move over for Ian

So what does everyone think about the Ian Thorpe and Craig Stevens (swimming) fiasco, in case you don't know, Ian buggered his start and Craig won but now ppl want Craig to move over and let Ian run the race? Personally I think its a tragedy that Ian f#<ked up his start but why should someone else who has trained just as hard be denied an opportunity. To me if you stuff up thats life.

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

has craig ever been to the olympics? making him step down is a bit much i think; the only one who should pay for ian's mistake is ian himself. it's made him that much more careful about his starts now. ideally i would like ian to race, however not if someone else has to step down

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

Even Ian himself says that Craig should be swimming this race, and not him.

The superfish has some great sportsmanship. How many other sportsmen would you hear about just accepting his mistake and being gracious about the rules.

Personally, I think it's cheating to let a disqualified swimmer swim the race he was disqualified from!

Well done Ian for being such a champ about it all. And I hope Craig really does well (but I think they've ruined his chances with all the pressure of taking a disqualified near shoe-in's place).

Just my personal opinion. :)

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

The international Olympic committee has the power to give him a wild card if they want to put him in that 400 meter advent.

Then it couldn’t be called cheating...I just think we are robbing the world from seeing the worlds best and that’s what the Olympics are all about showcasing the best talent every Country has to offer. If he got a wildcard then all 3 of them can race. Either way there is so much pressure on Craig I hope he can perform to his best…
If he would have fell in the water in the last Olympic trials it would have been called a false start.

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

a rule is a rule, it is FINA's world wide conditions of qualification, it has been accepted as the rules by everybody, we can't really bend them or they will cheapen the Olympics..If on the other hand the International Olympic comitee gives him a wildcard thats Ok by me.. Thorpe is the world record holder and undefeated in 6 years at that event.. Got to give Stevens a pat on the back for not only finishing 2nd but breaking the 'A' Qualifying time and making the team in his own right

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

Thorpe has done the right thing, is going to the olympics anyhow, and is being a true sportsman. Craig has doen everything right too and deserves his spot.

Now lets all how that the OC gives him the wildcard entry he deserves.

Thorpe stuffed it, it happens, its the rules.

The biggest thing is that Thorpe has said himself, I am over it, it happend thats life, yet the media continue on about it.

Re: Should Craig move over for Ian

The decision of whether Craig should move over for Ian should only be made by Craig himself.
