Depends... If you can live without modern luxuries and performance, then by all means buy the XW if it's what you want. What engine does it have in it?
if i was in that spot.. i'd keep the EL! although i like the xw's style, when you drive it in a hot summer you will kick yourself for not keeping the EL
you would have to put a lot of dollars and effort into the XW to make it as good as your EL. Plus it's only a wagon. I bought a cheap strait XC recently and am thinking I should have just waited and got something with a/c and p/s etc.. I guess if you dreamed of owning an XW wagon as a kid then go for it. Has the car been restored?? modified??
I just sold a 1977 Premier in original cond. Aircon had been taken out though, HOT HOT HOT, especially here, aircon is god, dont do it. Or get a loan for 4 grand and have both.
keep the EL. doesnt matter if its in mint condition, 30 years more technology is going to make the EL the superior car. sure they got style, but definatly not the sort of thing you want for a daily driver.

being in the Pilbara air con would be a need not a want!
had mates who went to Karatha (think) and windows tinited, due to this you can't wind down the windows for 48 hours or so, and worse thing was the car had no air con, but they had to drive home....opening the doors now and then
