A silent recall is one where things go wrong with the model car that you have and you aren't told about it.
They come in two forms - good ones and bad ones.
The good ones are where dealers are told to perform a certain check or fix on a range of vehicles when they are presented for service. The only people disadvantaged by this type are those who don't use dealer servicing.
The bad ones are the ones where the dealer is told to do nothing until an owner complains about a certain problem and even then there will likely be an easy fix (cheap) or a proper fix (dear) with the first one being the preferred solution.
The bad type used to be common in the US and rare here but that seems to be changing as they are becoming far more common here now with a high percentage of campaigns now identified with statements like
"Customers will not be notified"
"If the Customer raises a concern with ..."
For what my opinion is worth I don't think this is very smart on the part of Ford. Might save the odd dollar or two but you just can't keep those kind of things secret for long and they end up pissing off the owners when they do come to light.
Of course they aren't safety related issues so I am not suggesting that Ford are putting people at risk in doing this but its just another example of the penny pinching attitude in the corridors of power these days.
Just for the record if you have an FPV car don't feel that the situation is any better. If anything they are worse at playing secret squirrel with this stuff with the added bonus that they have more to hide anyway.
Obivous reasons you don't really know. Unless you are proven to be a reliable source, these sort of statements are worthless. But then again, you are entitled to your opinion.

Then there's the containment bulletins etc etc. Yes, they do exist. But you're not going to get a fix if you go to Ultra Tune are you?

Can details be posted in the Donating members section?
Saying there is a problem without describing what the problem is makes it hard for us not in the know... well to know and agree with your statement or even take measures to avoid the problem. :s6:
