sms text messaging - how bad are you?

I admit, I am a real sucker for using the sms text service and found that at least 80% of my phone bills are sms related. The purpose for this thread is see how bad we actually are when it comes to sms communication.

My worst phone bill revealed about $180 with $40 of that total being normal phone calls. I've tryed to barred the use of my sms service for a month to teach myself a lesson in self control. But, only a few days later and I'm back to my usual self.

I wish the phone companies would install a service that would give you a cap on how many sms's you send (for contract users only). For those on a pre-paid deal I guess you may not have that problem but you may have other issues that us people on contracts dont have.

Tell us what your worst phone bill was in relation to text messages and if/have planned to rectify your usage!

I may look further into pre-paid. It seems like a more disciplined way of monitoring your phone bills and keeping them in check.

LOL @ getting drunk

And getting to read the drunken crap you send a coupla days after is always fun!

But your right, I spend no more than 25 a fortnight, if I run out before payday i just have to go without. Call charges on prepaid are a killer though

Re: sms text messaging - how bad are you?

I personaly think that being charged for SMS is crap. An SMS message is simply a data call that lasts maybe 1 or 2 seconds while the call is made and data transferred. It should therefore be classed as a call and charged appropriately to either your free time or call costs.

Anyway, on to the topic!

I use SMS but not often. About 10 a month I'd say which is more than how many phone calls I make!

Re: sms text messaging - how bad are you?

I would do about 10-15 sms's a month, but heaps of calls. I use my phone for work (95% tax rightoff) so a $180 - $240 bill each month is no big deal.

Re: sms text messaging - how bad are you?

Yeah 25c is a bit much per message when it costs the carriers about 1c.

Re: sms text messaging - how bad are you?

I thought call charges were taken out of your total prepaid card ammount.

3Toed - I agree, phone companies are making a killing out of sms because its a social thing and everyone is doing it so they think that they can make a killing from it.
Nevertheless, they should drop the rates for phone calls in leiu of excessive sms users. People are going to wake up to the antics of these companies someday.

Did you know they have a support group for ppl who are addicted sms? Weird hey? sms anonymous!
