Today I was driving along and this guy was in front of me maybe doing about 95 in a VR SS. It was raining and his spray was annoying me a bit so I indicated and pulled out to pass. Anyway when I was along side the VR and the loser plants it! I was already committed and pulling back wasn't really a safe option since there were other cars behind me before. I chopped from 4th to 3rd and let the old girl find her legs. I think the guy was surprised (and so was I) when I left him and got back in. But thats not the end. He preceded to tailgate me. There wouldnt have even been a carlenth between us and this was while I had 120 on the dash. I sped up a bit but so did he, slowed and he got closer. I had an idea. I crossed the rumble strip and put the wheels in the gravel verge. Needless to say he backed off.
I think the thrill of having a 5.0 was too much for him and his P plates.
I was driving home from the airport late on Thursday night and had a young kid in a laser scream past me in a 60 zone and cut me off. There was no apparent reason for it except that he knew if we were side by side and I put the foot down I would have left him behind. We came up to a set of lights with no other traffic around and I started to move to the next lane to get beside him. Once he realised that he was going to have to deal with me at the lights, he actually moved into the turning lane to get away.
What a loser, actually having to go out of your way not to have your car beaten. I just pointed at him and laughed! If you play with fire, you will get burnt.

Ripping on the handbrake is also an effictice deterrant for tailgaters. With no brake lights showing they seem to spear off the road to avoid you for some reason..

A mate of mine had an old escort panel van. You only had to move the gear stick close to reverse to have the reversing lights come on without actually selecting reverse. The amount of tail gaters that have slammed on the brakes when they see the reversing lights on while the car is still moving was amazing. It's certainly something you don't expect when your sitting on someone's bumper!
