Can someone tell me what date the pollution laws came in, I can't remember if it was in 1975 or 1976 and which month it was?

No idea...wasnt born....all I know is that it was compulsory to have unleaded fuel cars in 1985....and this included a catalyctic converter to be installed....

which pollution laws are you refering to? I thought all cars were on leaded fuel up until 85, and that was it?

XB was the last non smog car. All XC's had pollution gear on 'em. I think XC's started prod in 76 but not sure of month. You can tell by looking at ADR's on compliance plate.

ADR 26 Engine Emission Control.

Defines limits of carbon monoxide emissions from passenger car engine exhausts under idling conditions.

ADR 27 Engine Emission Control.

Additional to the requirements of ADR 26, defines limits of passenger car and passenger car derivative engine emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons (also oxides of nitrogen in ADR 27A) in all phases of operation.

ADR 37 Vehicle Emission Control.

Limits fuel evaporation and exhaust emissions from motor vehicles in order to reduce air pollution, and requires operation on unleaded petrol.
Applied from Jan 1986.

(a) Vehicles manufactured after January 1986 were built to
comply with Australian Design Rule ADR 37/00 and run
only on unleaded petrol. They generally have computercontrolled
engine management systems, fuel injection, and
are fitted with catalytic converters.
(b) Cars made between 1974 and 1986 were designed to meet
the less stringent ADR 27 and run on leaded petrol, do not
have catalytic converters and generally have carburettors
rather than fuel injection systems.

It's a bit confusing http://www.ephc.gov.au/mvec/pdfs/vef..._discpaper.pdf Seems the rules were developed before they were adopted.

"Australia first adoptedcomprehensive emission standards in 1974 (for petrol passenger cars), initially utilising the UNECE approach, then switching to US standards and test methods in 1976."
