For all you space nuts I thought you might be interested to know that the X Prize for a privately owned, reusable, 3 person space craft has actually been won.

Details here: http://www.space.com/missionlaunches..._coverage.html

The cash designed to inspire space travel was won Oct. 4, 2004 as SpaceShipOne, a privately built three-person craft, made a required second flight above 62 miles (100 km).
This was on the news when it happened a month ago. They needed to make a manned flight into orbit, then land, and do it again within two weeks. The first flight the aircraft almost lost control on ascent into orbit, but the pilot managed to correct it.
They won $10M US for their troubles.

Sir Dick is proposing to "commercially" fund something similar in about 2010-2020 after more research and refining of the space craft is done. It won’t be cheap though, something like $200k per person for 4 minutes in orbit.
