Fantastic and hits them where it hurts - statistics!!
A superb effort and I'll be giving him my full support.

My full support also. Speed cameras need to be used to slow people down in real "Black Spots" therefore shouldnt be hidden. They should be out in the open so they can be seen because if they arent seen then no one will slow down which defeats the purpose of having the cameras except that they are raising massive revenue for the Government mainly from people doing less than 10 over the speed limit. The point about creating a country of speedometer watches is also very true. In new cars it is a lot harder to stick to a certain speed and coming down the South-Eastern freeway in Adelaide (Towards adelaide through the tunnels etc.) it is very hard to stick to the speed limit and i am constantly watching the speedometer which takes my concentration off the traffic and conditions around me.
The problem I see is..if the government accepts any findings in future (ha) and decides to remove some of the speed cameras (ha) people might then think it is safe to speed now and then are greeted by a pole or a tree. The government has really put speeding in a delicate position.

Cameras can contribute to road fatalities by distracting drivers, increasing frustration, encouraging sudden braking and diminishing the initiative to drive at appropriate speeds.
Exactly... it's good to see some real factors enunciated. I've seldom not wondered about the implications of the sea of brake lights you often get just before a speed camera location. The potential exists to reduce one cause of fatality and introduce more significant ones.
could someone please buy an old $500 bomb drive it past a speed camera lock it up and cause some type of prang, or even better get a couple of mates in $500 bombs and have a pile up in front of of one then blame it on the camera shocking you even though you were actually going the speed limit when you braked!!

i'd like to see what happens after that
If they are $500 bombs you will probably kill yourselves......

Here is wisdom.
Let him that hath understanding count the number of the BEAST:
for it is the number of a F6 Typhoon; and its number is 0217.
. Cameras risk creating a nation of speedometer-watchers who drive according to the dictates of the camera rather than road conditions.
Amen! The government and police have brainwashed drivers into thinking as long as they are within the speed limit they are "safe". They no longer drive to the conditions and put everyone at risk when they do 80 or 100km/h in heavy rain just like they do in the dry because a sign told them it's "safe" to drive that fast. Not to mention the distraction that is speedo watching in peak hour traffic (which is when most cameras are operating.).
Now if only the state governments paid attention to these findings we may be getting somewhere!
I love the quote:
"He (Johnston) says that in urban areas, every 5kmh over the limit roughly doubles the risk of a crash resulting in a casualty."
Tricksy words those - they sound like they say that +5kph means you crash twice as often, when they are saying +5kph in a crash will double the casualty rate. Very sneaky combination of scare tactics, theblindingly obvious and deceptive wording that is the by-line of the "Safety Campaigners" who support speed cameras . . .
