Re: Speeding

yeah ive seen those too and wondered how the heck they work. Do they need to be a certain distance away or something on a certain angle? Or can the passenger cop move it with a joystick or something?

Re: Speeding

One year when I was going from Wellington to Auckland for the V8 Supercars, we was probably doing about 115-120 in our Toyota Scepter wagon ( ) and a cop car coming the other way flashed his headlights to us as a warning, that was the only thing it could of been cause it was on open highway and not much else around, it was quite good of him to let us off with a warning.
This was in NZ though and our traffic laws arent as strict as Australia's from what I've read

Re: Speeding

Yep, he was only giving you a warning. And FoMoCo, they do not work off a joystick , they emit radiowaves that bounce off the offending car and back to the unit itself. Then some complicated math happens and presto, your speed is calculated.

Yep and according to the Hawk issued radar manual who the police buy the side mounted radar units off it states that the cop must hold a button down for 3 sec and wait for a tone which makes it a clean reading. Not to mention the bits that said do not use within 200m of an approch or decent side of A.hills B. change of speed limit sign. C.corner of roundabout. And this device is not a revenue raising device hahahaha. You got let off me thinks, be one of a very few times in history that a H/W patrol cop let somone go.

Not sure about the car mounted units but handheld lazer guns are good for 600 meters. I know when i got done by a h/p car he would have been 200+ meters behind me when he said he clocked me caz he got me going through a roundabout and he could have used it after that caz he didnt have line of sight as there were 2 massive roundabouts in his way.

The hand held lazer units i would belive but the vehicle mounted ones no. Think of how many other moving targets there would be within the 1km, at least with the lazer unit they can target a specific car but with the vehicle mounted unit they cant. I dont know how wide the angle of the radar beam is but the further it goes out the wider/weaker it becomes and less accurate it will be.
