When I brought my ED it had these white spots on the bonnet around the jets for the windscreen washers. pressume it is something the previous owner has put into the window washing water.

I've washed, polished everything and it won't budge. It looks real tacky, so if anyone has an idea of how to get rid of it (before i go ahead and spend money getting the whole thing resprayed) that would great!!

have you tried a cutting compound? not saying its the answer but it might help!

Could it be the clear coat lifting?
Something that the previous owner may have put in the water may have caused a reaction with the painwork.
Just guessing ..

I found that tap water when left to dry on a car can burn into the clear, impossible to get watermarks out apart from a respray

. Thats why I chamois the car straight after I wash it.

Yeh I think you guys are pretty much on the money with that explanation of the problem. I chamios mine immediately after I wash it. pitty the previous owner didn't :(

It never really bothered me before, but all of a sudden it really started to bug me. Looks ugly. My old man knows a couple of guys who are retired spray painters, he's gonna ask them how much for a full respray. Because it's got a couple of scrathes on the doors/boot aswell, nothing major, just looks a bit untidy close up.

So to extend the topic a little more. Thinking of going from heritage green (current colour) to a glossy black. Good Idea? How is the depth and shine achieved, is it friom the paint? clear paint over top? or just good job with a good polish. it will just be the exterior panels getting painted. Not the engine bay etc. Because I'll prob prepare the car myself and then just get them to spray it. And then i can get the shitty grey strips colour coded at the same time. Hooray! :D
Any comments?

I find with my bro-in-laws car ( heritage green ef fairmont) he finds it really hard to keep clean. And it shows up any imperfection on the body work. If you must respray in a dark colour, make sure you try and get as many dents and knocks taken out as best as possible or it may show up more prominently. Dont get me wrong, a black car looks horn imo. Just make sure they do a proper job and you'll be fine!
