any one set up a stereo in a panelvan? mainly the wiring and placement of 6x9s in the back section (along the side where the screw off panels are). not sure if to put them in the panels closer to the front or in the ones up the back. also is there actually any decent sounding speakers to replace those crappy 4inch ones in the dash??

friend use to have a escort panel van and used those megaphone/ pa speakers, damn it was loud

I have a sub in my mates XF van called a housewrecker (due to the fact that it has cracked plaster and broken windows) it has 4 x 15 inch subs in compound isobaric configuration and 2 amps it set off car alarms at Eastern Beach (Geelong) and he played a bass test disk to his mates at work and half of them nearly threw up, it's cool, most aftermarket 4 inch speakers fit straight in, the 6x9s can go anywhere along the sides but the fuel filler pipe is on the side behind the seats so they may only fit at the back

I've got two sets of 6x9's in the back aswell as a sub in small box. I run the front 4" dash speakers and the front set of 6x9's from the head unit and the sub and rear 6x9's from an amp. Sounds pretty good I reckon, not earth shattering like 460Fairmont's mate but I'm happy.

EDIT: To answer your questions too...

I used 8mm chipboard or whatever using the panels out of the car as a template. I'd use the ones closer to the front as you'll hear them clearer. Cut out the shape for the speaker taking into account the obstructions behind the panels. When you take the panels off it'll be fairly obvious where to run the wires, mine go behind the trim that the seatbelts are mounted to, up along the door sills and through the dash to the head unit.

You can get replacement 4" speakers for the dash too. I've got 80w twin cone Pioneers that seem to handle the high volumes fairly well for small speakers, but I'm sure the many stereo guru's will be able to tell you more.

Yeap i can vouch for AusXH's stereo setup, it's got some nice bass yet it plays clear and doesn't have the muffly sound commonly found in alot of stereo's setup for bass.
