I know this is a bit late but i was wondering on your opininions of Craig Stevens decision to step aside in the 400m freestyle for thorpey to swim... what do u's think?
I think he should have realised his olympic dream and swam in the 400, thorpe had his chance and judging by the body language of stevens on Today Tonight monday night and the 60000 contract i think he wanted to swim but was pressured by the media and the public to step aside for the "better man"
What do yous think?
Cheers

I think that Craig did the right decision, because lets face it he never was going to win that title anyway and at least he will be going to the Olympics and be in the 1500m .
Cheers John

i don't think he should of stepped aside as he did earn the right to represent the country at the olympics. But i do think that the ioc should have gave thorpe an invitation to swim in the event anyway as it is obviously he is a crowd puller and is a true champion especially in that event. If you don't know what i mean i am talking about similar how in tennis people like the williams sisters are given wild cards into the events if they have failed to qualify due to injuries.
i think that if he had doubts of being able to win then yes but i dont think he should just hand it over to Thorpe because the country has put the pressure on him to do so. in the end its not really about the individual its about the countrys amount of wins. meaning it doesnt matter who wins the gold its the fact that Australia won a gold.

He should have swam.
If anyone other than Mr Thorpe had fell in the drink, there would be hardly a murmur.
At the end of the day I suppose Mr Stevens will have to live with his own decision of throwing away a chance at Olympic glory.
Before this, he had two chances to succeed now he has one.........
Mr Thorpe has had to earn every chance to have a crack at the Olympics to date, and I don't see this one as being any different!

Rules are rules as far as I'm concerned. You have to draw the line somewhere, eh? It's gutsy on his behalf, and I think anyone would do the same or else you would cop flack for coming any position other than first. Let's hope Thorpey does a decent race.
(BTW, there is another thread or two about this floating around)
