as if our governments dont waste enough time on crap, here is a law that really could do with some common sense being applied. i know asking a govt dept to apply common sense is like asking my dog to play beethoven, but i am going to try anyway. (mind you...the dog has got the second movement down to a fine art...

)
anyway, i have just received three model cars in the mail from new xealand. i would have preferred to buy them in perth, but couldnt. one model i couldnt buy because the aussie distributor is a moron. the other two i couldnt buy because...they have 'rothmans' sponsorship. all three are models of rally escorts (surprise). as such, they are authentic replicas of cars that were raced in the 70's and 80's. now, because they carry cigarette sponsorship and they are classified as toys, they cannot be sold in this country. and the best bit is the government enforces this law! they actually go into hobby shops checking that there are no toys on the shelves with ciggie sponsors on.
now, i can fully appreciate that the kiddies should not be subjected to the advertising, however, these models cost $60 each. nobody would give a child a $60 car when it is going to end up in the sand pit. these models are for serious collectors only.
as a result of this, i have to spend my money overseas to get these. it would be easier all round for poindexter from the govt to use his brain and exercise some discretion. and my dollars that are earned in perth could stay in perth.
anyway, whinge over, and the models are absolutely lovely. the roger clark 'cossack' escort is one of the nicest models i have seen.
