Did anyone else get that sudden burst of hail and snow on Saturday? (Victoria)
I got a missed call from my mum trying warning me to be careful. She was drivin around Moorabin and it started hailing REAL bad.
Meanwhile I was coming down the Dandynong Mountains after a trip for some pie. Then out of nowhere it started raining extremely hard. Then it turned to hail and was pouring so fast my wipers couldnt keep up. Then snow began to come down. This was in the space of about 5 minutes. I was tailing a Camry and noticed the roads were starting to turn white. Then i realised the roads were getting covered with snow and were icing up! This was about 2 seconds before the Camry in front of me slid off the road during a very gradual turn! I hit the same patch of ice a second later and the car started going left towards the edge after the Camry! I pumped the brakes a few times and regained a bit of traction and barely avoided the Camry that had stopped just short of going down the steep hillside on our left. Lets just say i wasnt supposed to be on the road and neither was my car so my heart was pumping overdrive! I was damn relieved that nothing happened. I ended up inching my way down the steep hills at 15kmh and passed 2 accidents on my way.
Anyone else have anyone adventures in this die-hard weather? I pity any learners who got caught in icy situations like that.

Yeh, I got cought in it for a few minutes. Luckly I was only a few minutes from home when it started. As I pulled into the garage, it got worse. The roads became very white real quick, and I don't live up in the mountains!
Yeah I was in Thomastown when that storm hit, it did look like it had been snowing, my car was covered in hail. I didn't see any accidents although the road was a little slippery. Even when we stopped in Fawkner about ten minutes later there was still hail all over the gutters and even on my car. I couldn't resist had to throw some around and put some down someone elses top.
I was in Ballarat over the weekend at a conference. We nearly fell over when we saw it snowing outside. I didn't think the Queenslanders there had ever seen it before!

I grew up around the dandinong mountians before i moved to brisbane when i was 15, it's defenitly not some where you want to get cought in a bad storm. which way were you coming down....i hope it wasn't via the road that goes to ferntree gully (i dont remember the name) or the mountain hwy they are really bad in the wet....or they used to be anyway....

Its the road that takes you to Burwood highway, which also splits into Ferntree Gully RD. Yeah it was pretty bad, great fun when its a bit wet, those tight corners and an LSD make for some great slidin! Not when theres ice though :(
Its amazing the level of grip a newer car like a BA XR6 has in comparison to a XF or EA. That new Control Blade IRS really shows what its good for in those mountains.
