Question Suggestion for new forum

I've been referring to my service manuals for my EA (Max Ellery EP.F4 and Gregorys No 245) when doing bits and pieces of work.

Something both these manuals have in common with other manuals for other cars I have used is <B>the things they don't tell you.</B>

For instance, I wanted to check the vacuum reservoir in my EA after having a couple of probs with the heating. So I looked up the manual before starting the job:

"<B>
VACUUM RESERVOIR

Remove
</B>
1. Remove wheel liner."

Problem was, it didn't say HOW it is removed. It didn't mention screws to be removed, tabs to be bent out, a whole lot of things.

I've encountered this before, and have learnt from experience about the things you have to do to make the job easier / do the job properly.

So how about a new sub-forum: <B>The Things They Don't Tell You</B>

I'd suggest people can post with regard to specific manuals, or just general tips about how to do a specific piece of maintenance.

Give everyone the benefit of YOUR experience.

Thoughts?

Re: Suggestion for new forum

Good idea, although I dont think it would be popular enough. For instance, I have those stupid books as well, and when I get into a problem, its usually straight to the tech pages of FF to ask someone who knows.

What i reckon would be cool is if someone posted a copy of the original ford service manual/bible online...hehehe

SikEA - Apparently, they are available as a CD, and the dealers have them. There is a few people that work at Ford on the forums, so maybe they could 'backup' the CD.....

Re: Suggestion for new forum

From what I've heard and from experience at work those CD's are inteded for and only to be owned by dealerships and are not available for sale to the public. They also cost an absolute truckload, the CD would probably cost more than you're average EA. Even workshop manuals are getting that way now so that the Dealers have the upper edge, if they were available to everyone Dealership Service Departments would soon die

Re: Suggestion for new forum

i didn't mean for the forum to REPLACE a service manual, rather to supplement it. Give you tips, point out steps that have been left out, warn about potential problems, etc.
