She's right. Did you read a report lately about car accidents involving 4*4??10% deaths for the drivers themselves opposed to 90% or so from the other "low" vehicles. So it is a good way to survive.
Try to convince her to get a real monster.Pajero or Landcruiser is a lethal weapon!CRV is fine but it's more like a sedan than a real 4WD.
Explorer is real nice and tough too,how about that?
is she buying the car with her own money? if she is, let her do it. if the money is coming from you as well, you should have just as much of a say as her. don't give up easily! if she threatens with stuff, SHE'S BLUFFING! just act hurt, and mope all day long... even if you DO get the CRV, refuse to get in it, and whenever going places, take your ute and let her take the CRV. when you rock up where you're going and people wonder why did you take two cars, explain that she stubbornly wanted the bloody 4WD and didn't want to reach an agreement to make everyone happy.

Hey, I've considered a CR/V for the wife/kids on a number of occasions - just can't bring myself to do it.
Good points;
High seating position,
Nice size,
Good interior space,
Versatility,
Looks OK, well the original one did anyway (could do with larger wheels/tyres).
Bad points;
Honda = import = ricer = export jobs
Underpowered 4 cylinder
Crap 4wd system (Gimmick)
Really a FWD
Can you hold off till 2004 for the Ford Raptor (E265) R7 type vehicle. That's what I'm doing.
Raptor, with that list of good and bad points, you may as well get a van and be done with it. Im dead against 4x4 - unless youre going 4x4ing with it. To go shopping, get the kids etc, buy a van or a station wagon.
Cracka - go and look up how much the tyres are worth. If theyre anything like real 4x4s, they'll be horrendously expensive. And remember, off road tyres dont cope too well with on road driving. That may be a convincing point.
In the CRVs defence - A CRV once dragged the mighty Camray out of mud so deep it went over the belt line. Granted the whole reason the mud was so deep and so tram tracked was the dozen 4x4s "on test" for some magazine. They all went nose to tail, and dumped the clutch on a muddy section - just to create two really deep tracks so they could have a "boggy bit" to test the 4x4s with. We made it easily through that section only hours before, and there wasnt any rain...... And people tell me 4x4 owners are responsible? Even the magazines are willfully destructive. And this was a fire trail they were destroying - you know, a road created to combat fires in the bush.....
Aaah, give her a test drive in a V8. The power will never let her get a Hyundai or a CRV......
L8a,
Prud
