Well some of you may have read about my mum having several dilemmas with her current car, a 1997 Hyundai Sonata. It's still buggered and my mum is at the end of her tether with it and has been talking about getting a new car for a while now.
A couple of suggestions from me have been, Ford Focus, Fiesta, Corolla, Honda Jazz and Mazda 2. I'm straying away from Hyundai again (the cheapest car manufacturer that gives a lot of value for what you pay, that I might consider). Basically we're looking at something that doesn't cost a bomb (even a brand-spanking new Corolla is pushing it), has four doors and it needs to be auto unfortunately. I was reading the local paper this arvo and came across new Focus' (with air con, airbag, etc) for $17k in manual.
My mum is a little sketchy about Fords because she thinks I am completely biassed (duh!) but I know that Focus' are genuinely good cars. Has anyone got links or information on reviews etc? I know they stick to the road like shit to a blanket, the Euros and Yanks love them, and are made in Belgium so they have to be good!!
Help a brother (and mother!) out here! I would die to have a new Focus in the driveway that I can fang around some twisty bits
Cheers.

I successfully managed to convince mum getting a Focus was the way to go. She has no hesitation fanging her little Green LX auto around the corners! Cheap and reliable to run, build quality is excellent, the car feels solid, I recommend one to any mum.
It was such an impressionable little car, my brother went and bought one in manual as his daily driver. Both cars are running like clockwork. Mum couldn't be happier in her little green Focus, best bit was when she found out for herself of the European quality and engine.

Hey RATT, my mum is probably going to a couple of dealers on Saturday. I know you're in NSW, but is there any particular Ford sales yards down this way (SE Melb) you could recommend? The SR sounds the way to go. Any idea on some sort of figure for a five-door auto?

It is in base model. But option up five-doors and auto and the price climbs very rapidly.

i duno if this will help but it should help somewhere along the lines http://www.womanmotorist.com/review/...s-2k1-01.shtml
if it doesnt help much you can always tell her to go for a test drive of one and see how it is :)

Well mum took one Focus for a test drive last week and another today which I was meant to see. However I was at Uni and didn't get the chance.
To cut the story short, mum bought the fricken thing today! A silver demo model, apparently 2.0L. It better be. I'm a little pissed that she jumped the gun like that, but there isn't anything I can do about that. I don't even know what model it is, if it's got any extras Grrrrr :( What's worse is, it's a sedan. And I really hate the fecken things, the hatches are soooo much nicer :( Very annoyed but happy at the same time. Mothers eh?!
I'll post up pics TOMORROW when she gets it! I can't wait to have a drive.
